Ray Dalio warns us that our nation is going broke...
DOGE is scrambling to save $2 trillion in the U.S. budget...
Endless spending is driving us into a brick wall, a financial abyss.
There is an answer, a single answer, that is elegant and solves everything.
As much as I love Bitcoin, it’s not a crypto reserve...
What if the root of our budget crisis isn’t financial—but biological?
The answer I propose is extending our healthspan.
Adding 20 vibrant, healthy years of life to every American.
Not just dragging out old age, but giving 70-year-olds the energy, strength, and mental clarity of their 50-year-old selves.
Giving them more muscle, better immunity, less pain, zero dementia.
Sound like sci-fi? It’s not (see below). It’s the future, and besides being the greatest gift we can offer our family and friends, it’s also THE answer to this country’s fiscal woes... It’s a financial game-changer.
Here’s the math:
Reduced Government Costs: Alzheimer’s and dementia will cost the U.S. $384 billion in 2025, projected to hit $1 trillion by 2050 [Alzheimer’s Association, 2025]. Extend healthspan, slash these costs by half, and save $192 billion a year right now, ballooning to $500 billion annually by mid-century.
Increased Workforce Participation / Delayed Retirement: Extending healthspan can add up to 13 million people to the labor force by keeping individuals healthier and productive longer. That’s a tax revenue bonanza. With ~47% of GDP tied to labor income, extending careers could pump $1.2 trillion into the economy yearly [Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2024].
Lower Disability Costs: Healthier people mean lower healthcare / disability costs. Chronic diseases eat up $4.1 trillion annually [CDC, 2024]. Cut that by just 20% through healthspan breakthroughs, and you’re saving $820 billion a year.
Other benefits include increased entrepreneurship as healthier adults are more likely to engage in entrepreneurial ventures and enhanced global competitiveness, as a nation of healthier, longer-living Americans can enhance the U.S.A.’s position in the global economy.
Bottom Line: A Nature Aging paper by Harvard, London Business School, and Oxford researchers highlights the punchline: increasing healthspan by just one year boosts the U.S. economy by $38 trillion through productivity and healthcare savings [TIME, 2025]. Scale that to 20 years, and we’re talking an economic jolt worth hundreds of trillions over decades.
Sound Impossible? Why This Is No Longer Science Fiction
Allow me to provide some growing evidence for why this might be possible: not because we “hope” it will be, but because the tools we are using for medicine are transitioning from Paleolithic to Star Trek – specifically originating from discoveries that powerful AI is having on human biology.
Compelling thoughts from two leaders in the field of AI:
- " I think maybe in the next 10, 15 years we can actually have a real crack at solving all disease." — Sir Demis Hassabis, PhD, CEO of Google DeepMind
- “My guess is that we can make 100 years of progress in areas like biology, in 5 or 10 years... I think a doubling of the human lifespan is not at all crazy.” — Dario Amodei, PhD, CEO of Anthropic
Two programs are actively engaged in doing exactly this, adding 20 healthy years:
- The $101M XPRIZE Healthspan (launched in 2023) seeks to add 20 healthy years specifically in muscle, immune, and cognition function. The breakthrough competition has more than 620 teams competing thus far.
- Within ARPA-H (Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health), a program called PROSPR (Proactive Solutions for Prolonging Resilience) has an explicit goal of extending healthy, disease‑free years of life by 20 years.
Imagine if this objective of 20-year expanded healthspan were properly resourced, not with a few hundred million, but many billions... Another Operation Warp Speed or Apollo Program, ultimately yielding trillions in financial benefits to America.
The U.S. isn’t broke—it’s sick. We’re trapped in a sick care system.
Fix healthspan, and we fix our economic and competitive future.
Let’s not just extend life—we can enhance it. For ourselves, for our nation, for the future.
Join the healthspan revolution. The future is vibrant.
Until next time,
Peter
